Dayton
was named for John Dayton, a congressman from New Jersey who, along with several partners, owned
the land when the originial settlers arrived.

The Wright Brothers built the world's first successful
engine-powered aircraft here and today the community hosts the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, one of the nation's largest
military bases.
Over 22,000 people are employed at Wright-Patterson, which occupies a site where the Wright
Brothers tested their fledgling airplane about a century ago.
But there's more to this
